MENTORING

NITES offer a 'two prong' approach to mentoring. We offer training to potential mentors of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees and we also have the ability to offer mentoring support directly to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees:

1. NITES offers a comprehensive one-day training opportunity to mentors of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander employees.  The aim of the training will be to give participants the tools and techniques to supervise, mentor and coach Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

2. Mentoring is a critical component of any successful Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander employment program and needs to be managed carefully.  NITES mentoring program can alleviate the pressure on host organisations by providing cultural support to participants.  This will ultimately increase chances of retention.  Key aspects of our external mentoring program:

  • Developing trust

  • Career planning

  • Providing cultural advice

  • Community engagement

  • Referral to local services

  • Advice and guidance

  • Motivation and encouragement
