Course Overview

 

NITES Cultural Appreciation training is a foundational e-learning course which consists of 5 modules:

 

  • Truth Telling

  • Big Power Movements

  • Torres Strait Islander culture

  • Solution based thinking (current issues)

  • Essential Information for the Workplace

 

It is designed to give participants an appreciation and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, customs, cultures and traditions.

 

The course is targeted to everyone, but in particular workplaces who are striving to create culturally safe environments: It is suitable for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, staff of all levels; and people who work with and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and programs.

Module 1 - Truth Telling

 

Overview

This module looks at our history starting from 60,000 years ago.  It looks at what life would have been like for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people highlighting their spiritual connections with each other, the land and every living thing on the land.

 

Truth telling is a major component of this module having a look at some of the big impacts post 1770 up until 1960.
